I have only recently learned of Mary's passing and am sorry to have missed her funeral and an opportunity to speak directly to Winston and Janet. I worked with Mary at Greenway school and also lived not far from her in the Wolseley neighbourhood. I much appreciated Mary's empathy with the students she worked with, her sense of humour, her frankness and her willingness to take on new tasks and new ideas. We also enjoyed talking politics at the lunch table! She will always be a pert of my Greenway school 'memory bank'. I know that you must be missing her very much.

Dear Winston and Janet,Mary and I were so surprised to learn of your mom’s untimely passing.Your mom would have laughed at a phrase like “untimely passing”. She was never much interested in euphemisms. Mary was more the sort of girl to say: “Call a spade a spade, but better still call it a shovel so I know you’re here to dig some real dirt.

My condolences sent to you Winston and Janet at this painful time. Worked with your Mum for many years at Greenway School and god we enjoyed the same sense of humour. I just remember the way she would have a light in her eyes when ever she spoke about you and Janet and how cool is that. Yes she was very proud of you both. Winston, if it will give you a moment of comfort she saw you getting married and happy and the gift of a grandson. That made your Mum a new name a NANA. Im sure she was very proud of that.

I knew both Don and Mary, back when we were all attending Ross Sheppard High, in Edmonton. It seems like yesterday... My condolences to Janet, Winston, and their extended families. R.I.P., Mary.
