I\'d like to share these thoughts that Jean and I exchanged by email one winter, a few years ago. I had sent her some pictures of snow in Paris, and we were comparing the weather in Paris vs Canada. She shows such an optimistic way of looking at things: Jean: Much of Canada is in a cold grip this week. The usual for the 3rd week in January. Not to worry. The sun is coming back. We have gained 35 minutes of daylight since Dec 21 the shortest day. Carmen: That\'s a positive way to look at things: The number of extra minutes of daylight since the start of winter :) Starting June 21 though, you\'ll need to come up with another way of thinking :) Jean: Yes, I have a very positive outlook at this time of year. When we are living through the worst cold of the year in January and February, no matter how cold it gets and what the weather man may throw at us it doesn\'t matter because the days are getting longer. Even now you can notice the difference with more twilight at the end of each day. Now in June when the days start to get shorter it doesn\'t matter because we still have our best summer months with July and August. September and October generally are pleasant with the fall colours covering the trees. It is the last week in November and the first three weeks in December when winter is settling in that are the worst. But then the sun starts to come back.

My first adult memory of Jean, was as a 17 year old teenager. She walked me through decision making process for my future career. She weighed the pros and cons of the Bachelor of Nursing Degree (BN) versus the Registered Nursing program (RN). I choose the BN and never looked back. So grateful of her for this. As well as sharing nursing memories, Jean and I shared the love of our pets Biskey and Robby. Betty, Jean and Cathy all nurses who shared their memories of my mother who was a nurse and who died when I was young. Jean and her sisters have maintained the linkage to my mother and her family. ?
